Alternative Political Economy of Knowledge Socialism

Introduction

Knowledge socialism is a philosophy of praxis which aims to counter the continued primacy of knowledge capitalism through the development of an alternative political economy of knowledge. As a theory, knowledge socialism seeks to establish a radically open political economy of knowledge, one that unlocks the innovative and emancipatory potential of collective thought processes towards productive and inclusive human development. In practice, knowledge socialism foregrounds a Peircean “community of inquiry” to develop knowledge cultures(networks of scholars committed to openness, collegiality, common good) based on creative labor, collective intelligence, and the commons-based peer production (CBPP) of knowledge as an irreducible public good. As such, knowledge socialism has been described as a philosophy of praxis which aims to foment a virtuous sociality of sharing, collaboration, and collegiality through peer-to-peer (P2P) editing, writing, and publishing practices...
