Nature of Scientist-School Interactions
There are numerous ways in which scientists and other professionals working in science-related fields interact with schools to add value to formal science education programs. Some interactions are longer-term, ongoing relationships, while others are single occurrences. The nature of interaction varies widely and includes face-to-face visits as well as online interactions such as e-mail, Skype, blogs, discussion forums and chat rooms, or a combination of these. Some organizations and professional associations become involved so that their scientists can deliver specific outreach programs into schools. Universities may encourage their faculty to become involved in an attempt to attract more students to enroll in undergraduate studies at their institution.
