Definition
Satisfaction with spiritual fulfillment refers to the Need of an individual to be part of a greater whole, which in turn influences how the person acts (Erikson, 1982). It has to do with the belief that each individual has a need to contribute to the world in which he or she lives and that such contribution will have a meaning once the person has passed away. Spiritual well-being is a lifelong pursuit and an affirmation of living a life in direct connection with the self, the community, the environment, and the sacred (van Dierendonck & Mohan, 2006). The conceptualization of Spirituality is particularly challenging due to a wide variety of perspectives and assumptions underlying spirituality research (Sawatzky et al., 2005; Peterson & Seligman, 2004).
