Definition

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America’s students know and can do in various subject areas. Assessments are conducted periodically in mathematics, reading, science, writing, the arts, civics, economics, geography, US history, and beginning in 2014, in technology and engineering literacy (TEL).

Description

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is a monitoring assessment that provides data about the status of and the changes in academic achievement of fourth, eighth, and twelfth grade students in the Unites States. It is a legally mandated project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the Institute of Education Sciences of the U.S. Department of Education.
