Zusammenfassung

In Deutschland leben etwa 90.000 Kinder und Jugendliche in Pflegefamilien; am häufigsten aufgrund sog. Unversorgtheit, Kindeswohlgefährdung oder eingeschränkter elterlicher erzieherischer Kompetenz. Im Vergleich zur Allgemeinbevölkerung weisen Pflegekinder mehr psychische und somatische Störungen auf und haben häufiger einen IQ im Bereich einer Lernbehinderung; aus kinder- und jugendpsychiatrischer Sicht stellen sie eine Hochrisikogruppe dar. Die angemessene Förderung und Erziehung von Pflegekindern ist eine herausfordernde Aufgabe, für die Pflegeeltern optimale Vorbereitung und Unterstützung benötigen, z. B. durch Elterntrainings. Auch eine sorgfältige kinder- und jugendpsychiatrische Diagnostik und gegebenenfalls Therapie ist unabdingbar für den erfolgreichen Verlauf einer Platzierung. Nachgewiesene Effekte einer Platzierung in einer Pflegefamilie sind die Reduktion kindlicher Psychopathologie und die Zunahme sicherer Bindungsmuster. Bislang noch unzureichend beforscht sind die sog. Care Leaver.
