Zusammenfassung
Rechenstörungen sind komplexe kognitive Entwicklungsbeeinträchtigungen, die bei etwa 5 % der Schulkinder auftreten und unbehandelt erhebliche Risiken für die Bildungs-, Gesundheits- und Persönlichkeitsentwicklung darstellen. Häufig treten komorbide Störungen im Bereich der Aufmerksamkeit und des Arbeitsgedächtnisses auf. Neurokognitive Modelle postulieren ein reifungsbezogenes Ineinandergreifen zahlreicher domänenspezifischer und -übergreifender kognitiver Funktionen. Entsprechend vielgestaltig sind auch die Symptome und ihre ätiologischen Bezüge. Entscheidend für das Gelingen individuell adaptiver Förderung und Therapie ist die Erfassung der Lernbiografie, die testmetrische Diagnostik aller beteiligten funktionellen und neuropsychologischen Komponenten sowie die Erhebung eines psychopathologischen und entwicklungsneurologischen Befundes.

Im anglo-amerikanischen Sprachraum gibt es den Begriff der „mathematical learning disability“, der häufig direkt ins Deutsche übersetzt wird als „mathematische Lernstörung oder -schwäche“. Da der Begriff der „Mathematik“ jedoch sehr umfassend ist und zusätzlich zu den numerisch-rechnerischen Fertigkeiten, die das Schulfach Mathematik in den Grundschuljahren dominieren, auch Fächer wie Algebra und Geometrie mit einschließt, möchten wir im Folgenden unsere Ausführungen auf die Begriffe der Rechenstörung und -schwäche sowie die Begriffe der numerisch-rechnerischen (anstatt mathematischen) Fertigkeiten beschränken.
