Carpobrotus N.E.Br. GC 1925: 433; Blake 1969: 1–65; Wisura & Glen 1993: 76–107; Hartmann 2001: 97–101 ≡ Abryanthemum Necker ex Rothmaler 1941: 413 nomen illeg. Typus C. edulis (L.) L.Bolus ≡ Abryanthemum edule (L.) Rothmaler, respectively Etym Gk carpos, fruit, brota, edible item, referring to the edible fruit of some species of the genus.
