Biodegradable Organic Matter

Biodegradable organic matter is organic material, plant, and animal matter with origin in living organisms, which can be converted by the action of microorganisms to water, carbon dioxide, and/or methane and biomass.

Organic materials can be used to obtain biodegradable polymers which are classified according to the method of production or their source (Fig. 1):
