Zusammenfassung
Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die sozialwissenschaftliche Diversitätsdiskussion und macht einen Vorschlag zur Weiterentwicklung des theoretischen Verständnisses von Diversität. In diesem Rahmen wird zunächst zwischen einer wissenssoziologischen und einer analytischen Perspektive unterschieden. Wissenssoziologischen Perspektiven geht es vor allem darum, Diversitätsdiskurse von Organisationen nachzuzeichnen und nach den Konsequenzen für deren Praxis zu fragen. Diversität wird in diesem Zusammenhang als moralisches Metagut (metagood) verstanden, das dazu dient, ein breites Spektrum von Maßnahmen zu initiieren und zu rechtfertigen. Anschließend werden analytische Perspektiven auf Diversität vorgestellt und diskutiert. Diese umreißen ein Forschungsfeld, das sich mit den Strukturen und Folgen von demografischer Heterogenisierung beschäftigt. Es wird argumentiert, dass ein sozialtheoretisch präzisierter Diversitätsbegriff einen wichtigen Beitrag leisten kann, um den Nexus zwischen Heterogenisierung der Bevölkerung und der Vervielfältigung personenbezogener Differenzen besser zu verstehen. Dies erfordert aber, so wird argumentiert, Diversität reflexiv d. h. als Beobachtungsbegriff zweiter Ordnung zu verwenden.

Charles Taylor (1989, S. 63) benutzt den Begriff des hypergoods. Die im Englischen Wort good enthaltende Doppeldeutigkeit (das Gute/das Gut) lässt sich leider nicht ins Deutsche übertragen. Darüber hinaus spreche ich nicht, wie Charles Taylor von hypergoods/Hypergütern, sondern von moralischen Metagütern. Dies soll akzentuieren, dass Diversität nicht einfach ein Leitwert ist, der über anderen moralischen Werten (hyper) steht, sondern um einen Bewertungsrahmen zweiter Ordnung, in dem mehrere moralischen Güter erster Ordnung eingegangen sind, und der deshalb über diese hinausgeht (meta).

Hirschauer verwendet den technischen Begriff der Humandifferenzierung. Aufgrund der stärker moralsoziologischen Einbettung der hier skizzierten Überlegungen, ziehe ich es vor, die soziale Form der Person ins Zentrum zu rücken. Deswegen spreche ich auch von personenbezogenen Unterschieden.

Die Verlagerung von staatlichen Organisationen hin zu privaten Unternehmen wie Google oder Facebook als Kategorisierer von Personen und Sammler personenbezogener Daten ist von großer Bedeutung für das Verständnis von Diversität, hat sich aber in der sozialwissenschaftlichen Diversitätsliteratur noch nicht niedergeschlagen. Hier sehe ich Forschungsbedarf.
