Zusammenfassung

Finanzielle Transfers sind eine wichtige Solidarleistung zwischen Eltern und ihren erwachsenen Kindern. Sie kommen regelmäßig vor und ermöglichen Eltern, ihre Kinder in Notlagen zu unterstützen, aber auch ihnen Freude zu bereiten. Aufgrund der durchschnittlich geringen Höhe finanzieller Transfers ist die Wirkung auf soziale Ungleichheit gering, es finden sich aber deutliche Hinweise, dass besser situierte Eltern ihre Kinder auch eher unterstützen. Der internationale Vergleich zeigt einen klaren Zusammenhang zwischen öffentlichen Leistungen und privaten Transfers.
