Zusammenfassung

The handbook on organizational education (Handbuch Organisationspädagogik) presents the current state of research in this subdiscipline of education. It assembles various aspects of the organizational educational discourse which started in the late 20th century, was intensified in the last two decades and meanwhile is institutionalized in the commission „Organisationspädagogik“ of the German Educational Research Association (GERA) as well as in the network „Organizational Education“ of the European Educational Research Association (EERA) and the international World Educational Research Association (WERA).

The central issue of organizational education theory, empirical research, methodology and conceptualization is organizational learning and its professional support, not only in educational organizations (e.g. preschools, schools, youth support services, adult education institutions), but in organizations of all kinds and of all societal fields (e.g. also companies, hospitals, administrative bodies, public organizations as well as market-oriented organizations or non profit organizations in the third sector).

Today, organizations more and more are called upon to form themselves according to humanistic criteria. They are not only addressees of reformist semantics and strategies, but have also become actors in shaping such impulses. As actors of development and learning processes, they have moved into the focus of education. Correspondingly, organizational education does not only deal with learning and change in organizations but also with learning by organizations.
