Zusammenfassung
Psychologische Faktoren beeinflussen erheblich das menschliche Schmerzerleben. Der Volksmund beschreibt den engen Zusammenhang zwischen Körperschmerz und seelischem Leid in eindrucksvollen Bildern von Hexenschuss bis Kopfzerbrechen. Mit der Zunahme des medizinischen Wissens über akute Schmerzen traten somatische Annahmen zum Schmerz in den Vordergrund. Historisch-philosophische, religiöse und psychologische Modelle, die zur Erklärung somatisch nicht erklärbarer Schmerzen dienten, verloren an Bedeutung, erlebten aber seit der Mitte 20sten Jahrhunderts eine Renaissance in der nun bekannten und allgemein akzeptierten bio-psycho-sozialen Theorie des Schmerzes, in der sensorische, kognitive, emotionale und soziale Faktoren als selbstverständliche Komponenten des akuten und chronischen Schmerzerlebens integriert sind, denn inzwischen stehen differenzierte diagnostische und psychotherapeutische Verfahren zur Verfügung, mit denen psychologische Faktoren des Schmerzes verstanden und behandelt werden können.
