Definition

Organic brain syndrome is a largely obsolete term that refers to mental dysfunction resulting from a physical, as opposed to primary psychiatric, disorder. Examples of diseases causing organic brain syndrome include physical trauma, stroke, infections of the central nervous system, dementia, tumor, kidney failure, liver failure, endocrine diseases, and vitamin deficiencies.
