Definition

Products and related services are provided by production networks where autonomous enterprises are linked by relatively stable material, information, and financial flows. A production network typically includes nodes of suppliers and manufacturers involved in direct value-adding activities, distribution centers and logistics service providers, as well as facilities and channels for reverse logistics. The network concept puts emphasis also on the fact that enterprises operate within the fabrics of economy, society, and ecosystem: they have to respect not only their customers’ and own interests but also those of other stakeholders, including the social and natural environments.
