Definition
The concept of “chronic daily headache” (CDH) was first introduced in the adult headache literature about 30 years ago to characterize headache occurring almost every day often after a history of episodic migraine (Mathew et al. 1982). The first publication on CDH in the pediatric literature appeared in 1994 (Holden et al. 1994). Since that time, definition criteria remain actively debated. Chronic daily headache most often is defined as headaches lasting at least 4 h per episode occurring at a frequency of 15 days or more per month for at least 3 months (Seshia et al. 2010; Gladstein and Rothner 2010). Included in this definition are headaches that are perceived to be continuous (occurring all day every day).
