Definition

Spindle-like structures in the dermis and close to joints in which the terminals of a fast conducting myelinated afferent axon are situated. The structure serves as a slowly adapting mechanosensor particularly sensitive to shear forces in skin or joints. The transducer molecules are probably situated in the nerve terminals.
