These synonyms show at least two different groups of uses which should be stressed here. One group is gathered around bribery and corruption as property of an item as being bad, broken, or damaged in comparison to its proper functioning (descriptive meaning), and the other group is gathered around bribery and corruption as something dishonest, deceitful, and fraudulent in comparison to the proper performance of an action, proper procedure, or even to the proper character of a person performing an action (normative meaning).
