NDRG2 stands for N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2, which was originally cloned by polymerase chain reaction-based subtractive hybridization from glioblastoma, using normal brain tissues as control. NDRG2 is located at chromosome arm 14q11.2 and is a gene that is significantly suppressed in glioblastoma tissues. Ndrg2 protein expression was observed in many developing tissues and organs including the heart, brain, lung, gut, liver, kidney, skeletal muscle, cartilage, chorion, epidermis, and whisker follicles. Ndrg2 expression was also observed in a variety of adult tissues, particularly in the heart and brain. NDRG2 gene expression decreased in different cancer tissues, such as breast cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, oligodendroglial tumors, and skin cancer. NDRG2 is a candidate tumor suppressor gene and may be a useful and functionally relevant biomarker for predicting aggressive forms of cancer. Ndrg2 protein contains several...
