Prostate Cancer Molecularly Targeted Therapies

Prostate cancer targeted therapy is defined as a treatment designed specifically for prostate cancer cells by interfering with specific targets in or on the cancer cells that blocks cancer growth or cancer spread and minimizes damage to normal and healthy cells.


Prostate cancer is one of the most common diseases in men worldwide although its incidence is higher in African-Americans compared to Caucasians and Asians (Prostate Cancer Epidemiology). Current treatment options for prostate cancer broadly include hormonal therapy, surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. Histological type, grading, tumor size, lymph node involvement, and hormone receptor status all influence prognosis. Initial treatment of clinically localized prostate cancer usually involves surgical removal of the cancerous tissue and/or radiation therapy.
