Synonyms

Gorlin syndrome; NBCCS

Definition

Autosomal dominant cancer predisposition syndrome which is also characterized by multiple developmental defects. Most patients with NBCCS have a heterozygous mutation in the gene encoding the Hedgehog receptor Patched. Tumors isolated from Gorlin patients generally show homozygous inactivation of Patched.
