Plant secondary metabolites with a diphenylpropane-containing structure. Flavonoids are normal constituents of the diet, as they are present in many fruits, vegetables, and beverages. Numerous preclinical studies have shown that flavonoids have anticancer properties, yet some studies have revealed that high doses of some flavonoids can produce carcinogenic effects.
