l-Amino Acids

Definition

l-amino acids are the only enantiomer of the amino acids with a chiral carbon atom encoded by genetic molecules into the proteins of terrestrial organisms. There are some d-amino acids found in the proteins of living organisms, but these are added by post-translational modification reactions or incorporated through nonribosomal synthesis.
