Definition

Electrochemical potential is the free energy change (ΔG) associated with the movement of chemical species through a gradient of electric potential and/or a gradient of concentration established between the two sides of a biomembrane. The electrochemical potentials of H+ and/or Na+ are a main fuel for the cell energy transductions.
