Depyrogenation

Definition

A pyrogen is a substance which causes, when in the blood flow of a homeothermic animal, a rise in the body or central temperature. The pyrogens can be synthetic molecules but often are toxins produced by pathogenic bacteria. Depyrogenation is the process of removing these pyrogens from a solution or compound. Depyrogenation has to be performed on containers and reactants to be used for some life detection tests.
