The 3.52–3.43 Ga-old Warrawoona Group is a ∼12 km-thick succession of dominantly volcanic and minor sedimentary rocks forming the base of the Pilbara Supergroup in the Pilbara Craton, Western Australia. It is famous for hosting the world’s oldest evidence of life, as stromatolites, microbially induced sedimentary structures and molecular remnants in bedded sedimentary rocks of the ca. 3.49 Ga Dresser Formation, probable microfossils in chert-barite hydrothermal feeder veins associated with the Dresser Formation, and other microfossils in bedded chert from the overlying ca. 3.47 Ga Mount Ada Basalt.
