A tholus (pl. tholi) is a descriptor term for a small domical mountain or hill of volcanic origin as defined by the International Astronomical Union (http://planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov/DescriptorTerms). Volcanic edifices named tholus can be found on Mars, Venus, and Io.
