Pornography and Religiosity in Yoruba Context

Introduction

Reflections on pornography and religion can be engendered through interpretations about the body. The body (as nude image) remains that which is commonly shared by pornography and religion. It is the site of sensual, sexual, and spiritual/symbolic expressions. A psychological perspective on pornography and religion can be conceived with reference to the body as a conductor of sexual and spiritual gratification. While pornography debates have been sustained from psychiatric, psychotherapeutic, ethical, and sociological angles, extending the debate to the context of psychology and religion would demand considering the interpretations or beliefs about the body that is often conveyed through religious images and imagery. Apt instances are the cases of Jesus Christ on the crucifix and the belief about Prophet Muhammed as being sexually potent.
