This family of so-called throat flies or pharynx flies (e.g., Cephenemyia stimulator) reach a length of 14–16 mm, appear like bumble-bees with yellow and blackish hair, and depone their eggs at the mouth of deer. The larvae develop in the throat and the prepupal stages leave the mouth and pupate on the ground. They are found in Europe up to regions in East Asia (Fig. 1).
