This type of infections occurs in animals and humans. According to data published by the WHO, worldwide an estimated 240 million new cases of so-called curable infections such as chlamydiasis, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis occur every year among persons aged 15–49 years. Due to the fact that AIDS is a notifiable disease, it is noted that in several countries with high standards of medications the cases went down in the years between 1980s until end of 1990s, but since then increased again constantly. Basic data on trichomoniasis due to Trichomonas vaginalis do not exist, since cases are not notified in most countries.
