Genus name for the now renamed species Plasmodium unalis which parasitizes in birds (Great thrush = Turdus fuscater) in Colombia and other regions of the Andes in South America. Development occurs mainly in mature erythrocytes, where schizonts (meronts) reach a maximum length of 9 μm and macrogametocytes as well as microgametocytes about 12 μm.
