This term describes the phenomenon that, e.g., sporocysts of Leucochloridium macrostomum and Urogonimus macrostomum enter the tentacles of their host snail and start there heavy pulsations (up to 70 per/min); thus the tentacles appear worm-like and stimulate birds to ingest the infected snails leading to a patent infection.
