Name

Greek: psochos = dust; pteron = wing.

This genus of tiny, rarely 1–10 mm long, mostly winged species of peculiar insects contains worldwide about 4,000 species. Since they occur often in masses in houses close to fields, they may be erroneously kept for parasites, since they may introduce allergic skin reactions. Common genera are Liposcelis, Ectopsocus, Graphopsocus, Blaste, Stenopsis, Loensia, Psocus, etc.
