This mite species is a relative of the European “chigger” Neotrombicula autumnalis and occurs in biotopes ranging from the southern states of the USA to the Amazonas regions. Symptoms of the sucking activity of mites are haemorrhagies at the biting site, erythema, and progredient intensive pruritus. Treatment: application of antihistamine and cortisone.
