This species belongs as related ones to the holotrichous ciliates, which normally live free in freshwater. In aquaria, however, these species (about 0.05 mm in length) may settle in wounds, where they are found often in masses. Reproduction occurs in cysts on the ground of the water by binary fission. T. corlissi and other ciliates are characterized by their cilia and two differently sized nuclei (Fig. 1). Treatment: In aquaria the product Protazol® by Fa. Sera, Heinsberg, Germany, can be used.
