In the mouth, cecum, and colon of humans, a spectrum of apathogenic flagellates has been described, which appear as well as free-flagellated stages but also as cysts, which can be diagnosed, when methods like flotation or SAFC and MIFC were used, respectively. Their number is generally low; it may become enlarged in case of immunosuppressed persons (Figs. 1 and 2):
