This species was proposed as “candidatus” by Richter and Matuschka (2012) when isolating these bacteria from Ixodes ticks deriving from Czech Republic with prevalence rates of up to 11.7 %. Other places of occurrence had been the Netherlands and Russia. Details on diseases are not yet clear.
