See Dirofilaria repens; this filarial worm occurs in subcutaneous tissues of dogs, cats, and occasionally in humans.

Incubation Period

Variable, a few days.

Prepatent Period

~1 week.

Patency

Lifelong due to autoinfection.

Therapy

Unknown for humans. Ivermectin, however, which ist used in dogs, would probably help.
