This species (syn. Trypanosoma theileri) is a cosmopolitan parasite of cattle and wild ruminants with high prevalence rates. Tabanid flies are the vectors. Inside their intestine reproduction occurs and infections occur by contamination of wounds. Pathogenicity of this species is low, which induces mostly chronic infections that have been considered in cases of T. brucei brucei infections.
