The finding that Plasmodium infected mosquitos interrupt their blood meals more often than noninfected individuals is interpreted by some authors as active manipulation by the parasites, since repeated short blood meals at different hosts propagate the parasites to a broader spectrum of hosts, which increases the survival rates of a vector-bound parasite.
