In case of planned eradication programs, it is needed to define the endemic status of target diseases in a given region. For malaria endemicity definition, the year prevalence rates of the parasites among children aged between 2 and 10 years were used to establish the following groups:

  • Hypoendemicity: less than 10 % of children are infected.

  • Mesoendemic: 11–50 % are infected.

  • Hyperendemic: 51–75 % are infected.

  • Holoendemic: more than 75 % are infected.
