A disease due to an infection with an alphavirus of the family Togaviridae being transmitted by Culiseta mosquitoes (e.g., C. melanura). The virus may be also transmitted to humans by the species of the genera Aedes, Culex, and Coquillettidia. Endemic areas are in the Southern and Eastern USA up to the Great Lakes.
