Dengue viruses (DENV) are single-stranded, nonsegmented ribonucleic acid (RNA), emerging, mosquito-borne flaviviruses, and the causative agents of dengue fever (DF), one of the world’s emerging infectious diseases, which is also known as breakbone fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). In tropical and subtropical regions (it is endemic in most countries of Southern and Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific regions, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Africa) (Fig. 1), 50–100 million people are infected in the developing world per year, and the numbers are rising globally. Local transmission of dengue in Europe was reported for the first time in 2010 (in France and Croatia), and imported cases were detected in three other European countries. Over 2,000 cases were reported from a 2012 outbreak on Madeira islands of Portugal, which resulted in imported cases in ten other countries in Europe apart from mainland Portugal.
