Stage of Myxosoma cerebralis. Formerly, the phase within the tubificid worms was described as own species. Now it is clear that these stages belong to the long known life cycle of Myxosoma (syn. Myxobolus) cerebralis parasitizing trouts and related fish (Fig. 1). The infection leads to malformations of the fish host and often to death. Triazines can be used to treat infected pond and aquarium fish as was shown by Mehlhorn (Fig. 2).
