Of the heterotrophic members of this group, a large number of species have entered upon a parasitic carrier inside or on the surface of hosts belonging to practically all phyla of the animal kingdom. Members of the orders Kinetoplastida, Diplomonadida, and Trichomonadida are of great medical importance for man and animals.
