Chemical Class

Macrocyclic lactone (16-membered macrocyclic lactone, avermectins).

Mode of Action

Glutamate-gated chloride channel modulator. Nematocidal Drugs, Ectoparasiticides: Antagonists and Modulators of Chloride Channels.

Ivermectin application increases the release of GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid) at the presynaptic nerve ending leading to the opening of the chloride ion channels and thus increasing the GABA binding at the motor neuron.
