Name
Greek: haima = blood; phyra = bladder. Latin: punctum = injection point; concinna = tiny; inermis = without weapons. English: red ticks.
The genus Haemaphysalis comprises about 165 described species, which occur worldwide. Especially numerous species are found in Asia and in Africa. In Europe three species are endemic, but their biotopes stretch out in many Eastern and Mideastern countries (Figs. 1, 2).
