Name

Latin: granulum = grain, granule.

This term describes the aspects of microscopic sections through a parasite stage (e.g., larvae of Toxocara species, eggs of Schistosoma species, Paragonimus species) inside a tissue of host. The host defense system has surrounded this parasitic stage by, e.g., eosinophilic granulocytes and mostly by layers of collagen, so that these places are clearly differentiated from the healthy tissues of the infected organs.
