Difficult Ventilation: The inability of an experienced provider to maintain oxygen saturation greater than 90% in a patient who had normal oxygen saturation prior to induction of anesthesia.

Difficult Laryngoscopy: The inability of an experienced provider to visualize the vocal cords in a patient in multiple attempts at standard laryngoscopy.

Difficult Intubation: The inability of an experienced provider to place an endotracheal tube in a patient’s trachea.

Emergent Airway: The transition point at which a patient’s oxygen saturation becomes difficult or impossible to maintain above 90% during an intubation or procedure.
