Definition
Represents a family of enzymes responsible for the hydrolysis of phosphatidylcholine (PC) into phosphatidic acid (PA) and choline. It is regulated by growth factors and cytokine receptors, as well as GTPases of the Ras superfamily, mostly Rho, Ral, and Arf proteins. At least two members in mammalians have been identified that are involved in secretion and cell growth control. At least PLD1 has been shown to have oncogenic potential.
