Definition
Synonym FGF2 basic FGF; is a broad spectrum and pleiotropic mitogen for growth and differentiation, affecting epithelial and endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and osteoblasts. FGF2 incites tumor angiogenesis, is expressed by various tumor cell lines, and seems to be biologically important in tumor progression and metastasis.
